GATEX

RAPID-ACTING SLIDE ISOLATION VALVE by rsbp

FUNCTIONALITY.

The GatEx rapid-acting slide valve is part of an explosion isolation system used to prevent the propagation of an explosion between areas of a process through connecting ductwork.

The GatEx is activated when an explosion is detected. Specially developed pressure and optical detectors constantly monitor the protected zones of the production technology. The DetEx pressure detector and the LumEx 1 or LumEx 4 optical detectors can be used for detection. Activation of the GatEx is also possible via the VMP explosion venting device. The detector sends a signal to the control unit, which activates the closing mechanism. The rapid-acting slide valve is closed pneumatically. When an explosion occurs, the duct will be completely closed in milliseconds, stopping an explosion in its tracks and prohibiting access to connecting processes.

INSTALLATION.

GatEx can be used in facilities using pneumatic conveying, extraction and in places with a short installation distance, allowing for flexible design parameters for complex applications. It is suitable for use on technologies designed for maximum explosion pressure (pmax). The design includes a fail-safe feature, which puts the slide in a safe state (closed) in case of a power cut or pressure drop in the protected application.

The GatEx isolation valve device is certified according to EN 15089.

MORE DETAILS.

The GatEx rapid-acting isolation valve is suitable for use on pipes from size DN 50 and pressure resistant up to 21 bar. This slide valve has an extremely fast reaction time ensuring that your process is protected from the devastating and costly effects of an explosion. Thanks to it’s design, the GatEx isolation valve can be used on processes that will only allow a short installation distance.

It can be utilised on a variety of processing applications, such as (but not limited to); dust filters, hoppers, mills, crushers, dust separators, dryers, cyclones, filling pipes and other industrial equipment. VISUALISATIONS

The GatEx rapid-acting isolation valve is used in the above visualisation with an explosion suppression system, also by RSBP, including HRD suppression bottles, Lumex detectors and a CONEX control unit. As soon as an ignition source is detected within the vessel (in this instance, a dust filtration unit) a signal is sent to the CONEX control panel which immediately activates both the HRD bottles and the GatEx isolation valve. In an instant, the GatEx slide slams shut, preventing the explosion from propagating through the duct into connected equipment, and the HRD suppression bottles discharge suppressants to totally extinguish the explosion at a rapid rate. The result is optimum safety, with a fast reset time meaning you can minimise downtime and get the process back up and running quickly after an ignition.

FLEX

GatEx

The GatEx rapid-acting isolation valve is used in the above visualisation with a FLEX flameless explosion venting device, also by RSBP, including a Lumex detector and a CONEX control unit. As soon as an ignition source is detected within the vessel (in this instance, a dust filtration unit) a signal is sent to the CONEX control panel which immediately activates the GatEx isolation valve. In an instant, the GatEx slide slams shut, preventing the explosion from propagating through the duct into connected equipment, and the FLEX flameless vent relieves the explosion and quenches flames, dust and gases coming from the explosion. The result is optimum safety, with a fast reset time meaning you can minimise downtime and get the process back up and running quickly after an ignition.
